Parkway School, PTO Board Member Descriptions
OFFICERS:
- President: The president presides over meetings of the PTO and the executive board, serves as the primary contact for the school’s principal, represents the organization at meetings outside the organization, serves as an ex officio member of all committees except the nominating committee, and coordinates the work of all the officers and committees so that the purpose of the PTO is served.
- Vice President: The vice president assists the president and carries out the president’s duties in his or her absence.
- Secretary: The secretary keeps all records of the PTO, prepares the PTO meeting agendas with the board's input, records minutes, manages the PTO mailbox and calendar, handles distribution of newsletters, emails and notices of meetings to the membership. The secretary also keeps bylaws up to date and oversees the signing of conflict-of-interest policies.
- Treasurer: The treasurer manages all PTO funds, keeps an accurate record of receipts and expenditures, and pays out funds in accordance with the approval of the executive board. He/she presents a financial statement at every meeting and at other times of the year when requested by the executive board and makes a full report at the end of the year. The treasurer checks the PTO lockbox for cash or checks or other important financial documentation and ensures taxes and insurance are reported and paid.

COMMITTEES:
- Communications: Works closely with the executive board members and committee chairs in the design of paper and digital marketing materials in support of PTO events and activities. Also designs and updates, as needed, the Parkway School website.
- Fall Festival: Coordinate and plan all aspects of the Fall Festival, including planning, scheduling, vendor hiring, set up, clean up, and budget.
- Spring Event: Coordinate and plan all aspects including planning, scheduling, vendor hiring, set up, clean up, and budget.
- Valle Heroes Transition: Helps to facilitate all aspects of a successful transition of the Valle Heros fundraiser (parking cars at Valle Fair in Valle Crucis) to Valle Crucis and/or other partner.
- Spirit Wear (aka Apparel): Coordinates the design of the school year, advertising, sales and distribution of the apparel to the school. Coordinates any in-person or digital sales events.
- Fundraising: Develop fundraising opportunities, including grants and donations, for the year. Coordinate the Box Tops program and reward programs with local business including but not limited to Publix, Lowes, Food lion, etc.
- Teacher Appreciation: Coordinate monthly meals, snacks, and events for Parkway staff to show our appreciation.
- Nominating: Coordinates the nomination process, presents the board slate in April and leads the election/voting process to finalize the officers and the board in May. The chairs are independent and do not have a current board position.
