On Tuesday, November 29, the Parkway School PTO leaders had an opportunity to give back in the community, by serving a Thanksgiving meal to members of the Deep Gap Volunteer Fire Department. The Department provides fire protection and medical first response to the area in and around Parkway School, and is involved in service regularly at the school. Learn more on their website, deepgapfire.com. "It was great to serve the fire department and thank them for all they do, not only for our PTO and School but for the community as a whole," said PTO President Lynne Griffith. The Department helped keep Fall Festival goers safe by handling traffic and pedestrian control in September. Members also provided fire safety to the school's 650+ students in October, among other services. "These individuals do great work in our community all year," said Griffith. "We are thankful for them and were thrilled to show our love in this way." Lynne Griffith, Amy Williams, Kit Jones, Travis Critcher, Brooke Christian, Kim Genboles (and her son, Tanner) were on site to set up, serve, and clean up. Haley Childers, Jenny McCourry and April Poling also helped provide food. Congrats to Mr. Gray, coaches, and these elementary Battle of the Books students, who brought home the first place trophy on March 9, 2020! Seen on Twitter!
Mrs. Sydney Sieviec, in her third year as a Parkway Patriot, has earned Parkway's Teacher of the Year honor for 2020-21! Parkway's beloved art instructor, Mrs. Sieviec enjoys teaching a variety of media, including: graphite, charcoal, pen-and-ink, oil pastel, chalk pastel, and colored pencil drawing, oil, acrylic, tempera, and watercolor painting, ceramics, sculpture, collage, papier-mâché, batik, and mixed media art, monoprint, linocut, and screen-printing processes, DSLR photography, graphic design, and yearbook. Congrats Mrs. Sieviec! She's pictured, center, with Parkway Principal Patty Buckner (right) and Assistant Principal Megan Kinder (left). We're excited about tomorrow's Man in My Life dance! Fingers crossed school doesn't cancel! Registrants received detailed information yesterday, and this just in, one of our talented Parkway School parents, Leila Jackson, will be on site at the dance to photograph the 75 "couples" expected to attend (free of charge!) In planning the dance, Leila shared with us the link to her virtual treasure trove of photos from the Lion King Jr. production earlier this year. And we wanted to share it with YOU! The photos are online, but password protected. A Thanksgiving Poem
May your turkey be tasty, your turkey be plump May your potatoes and gravy have nary a lump! May your yams be delicious, your pies take the prize and may your Thanksgiving dinner help Parkway's BOGO sales rise! Don't be a turkey; ask someone! This is the #1 thing you can do today to support Parkway School. Don't be shy; ask your family members! They'll thank you! OR forward this message to your friends, family, neighbors, church friends, business associates, etc. OR don't, and give them to everyone you know this holiday season! This card will save you money, support local businesses, and raise thousands of classroom and curriculum support dollars for Parkway School. Thank you for helping your student take orders and collect money, now through December 15. But don’t wait ‘til the sale ends to turn in your packets; PTO fills orders weekly so friends, family and neighbors will get their cards fast (and we'll return your packet so you can sell again!) Seller Prizes, too... If each student sells just 1 dining pass, we will raise $14,000! Every seller receives a free bag of popcorn from the Candy Barrel at Mast Store, and, if you sell more, you may be our weekly top seller and win a $10 Walmart gift card. Other prizes include: Mystery Hill Certificate for top elementary seller; Eno hammock for top middle school seller; pizza party for top selling classroom; and (this just in) a gift certificate for top selling class's hard-working teacher! Students will get credit for online sales, too! Thank you, and Happy Thanksgiving too our Parkway Family! High Impact Fundraiser: Now - December 15
What can you do NOW to support your friendly, local PTO, you ask? Hit up your friends, family, neighbors, church friends, business associates, etc. to purchase a 2020 High Country 365 Buy-One-Get-One-FREE Watauga County Dining Pass, that's what! We are excited about this opportunity, which will save money for our community members, support local businesses, and raise thousands of classroom and curriculum support dollars for Parkway School. Your student should have recently brought home an order form, but you can extras and more information, tools and links to online shopping on our website. Thank you for helping your student take orders and collect money, now through December 15th. These make great gifts and if every student sells just 1, we could earn $14,000 for our students, teachers and classrooms! Weekly top sellers will receive a $10 Walmart Gift Card. Overall Prizes include Mystery Hill Certificate and Single Eno Hammock from Mast Store. Every participant will receive popcorn from Mast Store. Top selling classroom will win a pizza party. We saw you!
To all of you who parked cars, spun sugar, game-mastered, raffled and took tickets at last Friday's fall festival... We saw you! To those who popped popcorn, plopped sour cream, brewed the tiniest cups of espresso... We saw you! To those who transformed an entire hallway into the most vibrant round-the-world display of cultures ever... We definitely saw you! To those corralling kids at cake walk, laser tag, JUMP and face painting, Saw ya! Did you sell T-shirts, yearbooks, dining cards or auction silently? We saw you, too! Are you a cake baker extraordinaire or a prop builder? Yep, we saw you! Broom wielders, ladder schleppers, photographers, promoters, planning committee members... none of it was unseen or unfelt. WE SAW YOU! And WE SALUTE YOU!! Fall Fest 2019, by all voiced accounts, was one for the ages! Why? Because of YOU! THANK YOU for helping us raise almost exactly $10,000 (yep, you heard that right) in one night to support our teachers and students!
