Blue Ridge Relay - Friday, September 7, 2018 (1PM-8:30PM)
the Blue Ridge Relay, which is a 206 mile running relay race that starts in Grayson Highlands State Park, VA and finishes in Asheville. Teams of 4-12 runners complete the course in a relay-style format. The course is segmented into 36 legs, which range in distance 2 – 11 miles/leg. In between legs, we supervise an exchange zone, where one runner passes a wrist strap (rather than a baton) to the next runner on his/her team. 200 teams (2000 runners), who are primarily from NC and the surrounding states, but also from across the USA and Canada, need our support.
Parkway Patriots (Parents, Teachers, Staff or Friends) will oversee Exchange Zone 12, located at intersections between the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mt. Vernon. Volunteers work in shifts at 4 stations between 1:15pm – 8:30pm. Adult volunteers may sign up for multiple time slots, and a portion of the race proceeds will go to Parkway School. |
