On Thursday, March 9, 2017, 38 students performed on stage during the 2017 Parkway School Spring Showcase. Acts were split into two shows (elementary at 6:00 p.m. and middle school at 7:00 p.m.) and included dancing, singing, instrumentals, dramatic readings and comedy. Eighth grade students Alexis L., Olivia P. and Jon J. served as emcees for both sessions. The Parkway School PTO coordinated a catered meal by BBQ, Burgers, and Brew before the shows, and student artwork was on display in the hallways. View 2017 Spring Showcase photos online. "The level of talent of our students is due to both community and school support," said Parkway School Principal Stephanie Weeks. "I appreciate the work our Arts department teachers, Mrs. Van Hine, Mrs. Boswell and Mr. Pinnix, did to make Spring Showcase a reality." Mrs. Taylor Van Hine serves as Parkway School's music teacher, Mrs. Rae Boswell is the art teacher and Mr. Judd Pinnix teaches band and orchestra. Parkway School has coordinated a spring talent or art show for around ten years, according to Mr. Pinnix. In addition to instruction received at school, many students have the opportunity to hone their various talents in our community. Often students learn skills through private lessons, frequently taught by individuals with connections to nearby Appalachian State University. Parkway School also counts Cheap Joe's and Blowing Rock Frameworks, as well as parents and community members, among key partners. On Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25, students will perform the Parkway School rendition of School House Rock Live, Jr. Both shows will be held at 6:00 p.m. Tickets ($5 each) are on sale in the main lobby each morning before school. For more information on arts at Parkway, call (828) 264-3032. We will be meeting on Tuesday, March 21 at 6:00pm in the Media Center. I hope to see many of you there. We will be discussing the Fun Run and next year's Fall Festival.

Take a brief survey to share with the hiring team what characteristics we seek as well as our school's biggest strengths and coming challenges. All input will be reviewed, and a leadership profile will be created for screening and interviewing the applicants. Take the survey now. |
